Paleo Substitutes: Yogurt


[This blog post is a series on Paleo substitues for foods that you love to consume but aren’t Paleo friendly.]

The last topic I covered in the Paleo Substitutes Series, we covered ice cream. Today, we will be covering yogurt.

We want to stay away from dairy products like yogurt because consuming dairy gives your body a “net acid” profile and that causes your body to neutralize the acid by depleting your bones of calcium.

What dairy can cause weak bones?!?!?!

So the substitutes for yogurt are:

Amande Almond Milk Yogurt

Amande yogurt is not bad. It’s pretty close to eating dairy yogurt. The taste profile of it does have a slight jello feel to it.

So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogut

The consistency of the coconut milk ice cream is very light. The consistency is very similar to a lemon meringue filling. Out of the two alternatives, I would prefer the almond milk yogurt.

Lastly, I will say that both of these products are not 100% paleo friendly. They do have some elements of corn starch, rice starch, and guar gum mixed into it. So treat these yogurt substitutes as a treat and have it every once in awhile.
